OUTFIT | 26 YEAR OLD GIRL

1.10.13

Being a 26 year old girl, fashionwise I already went through a lot of different phases. And with a lot, I mean a l-o-t. I remember the time when I was a bridesmaid once. I was about 6 years old and in love with my enormous lace dress, matching gloves and socks and white shoes. That had the littlest heel, but I was sold. I never wanted to take them off again. As well as the dress and matching gloves. And the socks. And although I was the coolest kid on the block, after two days my mother decided that it was enough. To my great sorrow of course and I cried about it for days. (Ok, the last part is not true. But it just makes me sound like such a mini-fashionista..Marvelous!) Who knew that only a few years later, I guess I was about 10 by then, I would really scare my mother when I would not want to leave the house without blue lipstick smudged on my lips. The fact that I also wore one of those tattoo necklaces (oh so '90s) does probably add to the horror.

The blue lipstick was a quick phase though, because I was already on to the next trend: oversized jeans, Airwalk skater shoes and tight belly shirts. Man do I remember that, now that I see those belly shirts everywhere! Difference is that back in the day, my fashion icons were Britney Spears, Solid Harmony and the Spice Girls. (I wanted to be Geri so, so bad.) Those icons were rapidly replaced, when I went to high school and puberty catapulted me all the way into preppiness. I will bore you with this and all the other phases I went through another time though. (Like the fact that my hair took on every color of the rainbow.) Because I guess the thing that I am trying to tell you is that, although I still go through different phases every season, I think I have learnt. Got to know myself a little bit better, probably thanks to all those youthful experiments. Right now I am really into baroque elements, like this shirt. Really loving the collar and lace elements for fall. I am not going full out though, like I used to do when I was younger. I combine it with my beloved basics. A grey jumper and jeans, a long gilet and black biker boots. I have learned the hard way and I am keeping it simple nowadays. While avoiding the case of total boredom.

Being a 26 year old girl, I feel like I have found my style. I do not need to try those extreme styles anymore, because I have tried them all. I know what fits me and what does not. And although those experimental times were fun, I am happy that I am in the (fashionable) place where I am now. But maybe time will tell us different in a few years. Maybe when we look back, my twenty-somethings where just another phase. We will see! Thinking about my own style journey makes me wonder about yours:

Did you also go through different phases or did you always know your style?
Happy Tuesday!
-xoxo-
