INTERIOR DESIGN | 3 MAKES A TREND

interior design trend 2014

They say that 3 makes a trend. And although I know Sunday is usually Fashion School day, I would like to share with you some of the most refreshing interior design trends out there this season. This post is part of the series inspired by the Villa Arena x Blogtoday blogging contest. As one of the 10 lucky winners of a series of masterclasses, lectured by today's leading interior design bloggers, I will conduct three associated assignments in the coming weeks.

Today is all about spotting trends. And although I am a true fan of the prevailing industrial and minimalistic monochrome trend, I decided to capture something else. Something daring and different. Something you might not ever think of decorating your home with. Something you might even have abhorred in the past: Vermeer's color pallet, the dark side of disco and vibrant orange. Villa Arena is turning them into the new cool. Making it more than okay to slide some color into your home again. So here we go!

VERMEER'S COLOR PALLET
Walking around Villa Arena, my eye was instantly drawn to all the darkened cool tones. Dark blue and petrol green, accessorized with bulky bronze elements. It made me think of Vermeer's famous painting The girl with a pearl earring. Rich colors that radiate pureness in a rich and authentic way. It might also have been my visit to the Rijksmuseum last week, but I think those tones will make their way into our homes. To celebrate simplicity, quality and evolved taste.

THE DARK SIDE OF DISCO
Take a little bit of Foxy Brown, a little bit of Blow and Motown's classics and you get the vibe of this dark brown interior. The 70s are updated and waiting for you to get sucked back into this fascinating era. Vinyl records, vintage elements and a touch of color are the ingredients to create a cosy and sexy home. So get up on that dance floor and get inspired!

Stores | Art District, Practica Wonen, Goossens wonen

VIBRANT ORANGE
Maybe it is the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, the fact that the 90s are back in fashion and making their way into interior design, or an attempt to break through the monochrome autocracy of today's homes. Either way, black and white are combined with vibrant orange to create a fresh and summery look. I think it is a nice way to experiment and see what a pop of color can do to your home. It makes you feel happy, free and just a little bit Nelly Furtado in I'm like a bird. ;-)

Stores | Hulshoff Designcenter, Art Fusion, Marc Janssen

All trends are to be found in the broad variety of stores at the Villa Arena mall in Amsterdam. The store staff is lovely and can tell you everything about their collections and the current trends. They will even help you find a ladder to get an up and close view of a certain product. True story!

Just curious. What is your favorite trend?

Have a lovely day today!
