AMSTERDAM | WALK AROUND THE BLOCK

So much for fashion today, let's focus on how beautiful Amsterdam is in fall for once. Yesterday, I took my new camera out for a spin. Last month the lovely team of Batavia Stad picked me as the winner of their fashion blogger contest. Pretty awesome in itself already, but the prize that came with it was even more amazing: a Canon 650 D. Whoop! Just in time, because after sporting my Samsung NX 200 for quite some time I was ready for something bigger. Something with more capabilities that would help me lift this blog to a higher level. Photography wise I mean. ;-) So first of all a big THANK YOU to all of the people at Batavia Stad for choosing me as their favorite contestant is in place. Later this week I promise I will elaborate a bit more on the contest, but today I am proud to show you my first steps in the world of 'serious' photography.

This cam comes with so much more buttons and menus than my Samsung, that it was a real challenge to find the right settings at first. And although my goal is to fully master the manual menu, I guessed it would be easier to start with the semi-automatic ones. I played around with the ISO, aperture and shutter speed a bit and I must say that the camera is less hard to understand than I estimated at first. Which was nice, as I thought that I would never be able to master all settings. The thing that striked me most is, besides the quality of the photographs, its performance in semi-darkness. The sun had already started to go down at 5 o clock yesterday, but the pictures turned out pretty light. Such a difference with my old camera. 

I ended up just walking around the block where I live and captured bits and pieces of its beauty. The building with the red leaves, the railway and the cafe on the corner of our street... I am going to miss those places when we move to the other side of the city next month.
