alexander wang x hm 2014

I am probably not the first to tell you that H&M will collaborate with Alexander Wang on designing an affordable designer capsule collection. As today is Fashion School day, this news made me curious of Alexanders fashion history. So here we go, some facts!

BORN AND RAISED | Wang was born and raised in California, San Fransisco, but moved to New York when he was 18 years old to pursue a career in fashion.

EDUCATION | Wang went to the Parsons School of Design, but left in his second year. As he felt that he was not challenged as much in school as he was during his internships at Teen Vogue, Derek Lam and Marc Jacobs, he figured that he would focus on those for a while. That year, he also started his own label. The rest is history.

BREAKTHROUGH | His appointment as the creative director of Balenciaga in 2012 at the age of 28. But since 2007, Wang sported his own label which was already mostly worn by the downtown New York City crowd.

ALEXANDER WANG | Wang found out that like minded people around him could not find certain pieces, so he decided to make them himself. Wang makes clothes that people want to wear on a daily basis. Think of jeans, t-shirts, etc. It is needless to say that his succes lies in the fact that those key pieces are very well executed. Those simple key pieces are still Wang's favorites to make.

BALENCIAGA | The young designer is not trying to turn Balenciaga into an Alexander Wang 2.0. He honors the history of the house which is characterized by strong silhouettes, structured shoulders and restraint in design.

INSPIRATION | Everything around him, but especially the street culture. Funny fact is that he also loves to interact with his customers on Twitter for example. So do you have a question for mister Wang? Go find him @AlexanderWangNY!

IDOLS | Off course Wang looks up to other fashion designers, especially  Ralph Lauren, Margiela and Alaïa.

ADVICE | The best advice he has ever gotten is to listen to people who are more experienced than you.

SUCCESS | The key to success is never realizing that you are doing well. There is always something to improve on.

Let's hope that his collection for H&M will be just as exquisite as his latest collections for his own label and the house of Balanciaga. So excited! The collection will be in stores on November 6th.

Enjoy your Sunday!

3 opmerkingen:

  1. Looking forward to the result

  2. Ik kan niet wachten om te zien wat er uit deze samenwerking gaat voortkomen. Hoop dat het toch ook wel een beetje draagbaar is en niet té designerachtig/alternatief. Ben benieuwd!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate and read every single one of them. Talk to you soon! -xoxo-
