5 Days Off! Not because I have some time off from work unfortunately, but because the Melkweg, Paradiso and De Balie are hosting a dance festival with cross-overs between music, film and art. Like for example the exposition Freaks Come Out At Night, that opened last Wednesday in the Melkweg gallery. A black and white photo series, that brings Amsterdam's nightlife in front of the lens. Because we know them all right? The extravagant people that make a party just a little more fun. Or at least memorable. I really enjoyed the expo, and there is a reasonable chance that I will see it again when I am hitting the Melkweg's dance floor this weekend. Until March 5th you have the opportunity to check out the exhibition - free entrance via the Melkweg Cafe - but if you want to dance to the beats of hot DJ's at 5 Days Off, you have until Sunday.
Why?
Because I think that most people know the Melkweg as a club, but not as a gallery or movie theater. Such a shame, because their gallery is so low key and especially lately their exhibitions are really fun. If you are able to attend an opening you should definitely go. The Melkweg always makes sure that that is the moment to experience the works to the fullest. - Think surprising acts and funny food. - What better way to start an evening out?
Who?
Nothing too fancy here. You will run into a music and art loving crowd.
Affordable?
Yes! There is free entrance via the Melkweg Cafe during the day! For the night owls among us, the gallery is right next to the smoking area. And of course free at night time also. ;-)
Where?
The Melkweg is located right in the center of Amsterdam, near the Leidseplein. The gallery entrance is located at the Marnixstraat. Check out their website for more information.
Writing this post makes me so excited for the weekend. Can not wait! And the great thing is that it is Friday already, so only a few more hours to go before we can go dancing again! TGIF! :-)
Happy Friday!
